Fans of tabletop gaming and art will have the opportunity to try their hand at one of the hobby's most popular creative activities during Brushwork Bootcamp: Learning to Paint Warhammer 40K Miniatures, led by artist Michael Farina from Airier Games. Workshops will be offered Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1pm, and Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2pm, as part of Cosmic Realms 2026.
The hands-on workshop will introduce guests to the basics of painting Warhammer 40K miniatures. Participants will have the opportunity to paint official Warhammer 40K miniatures from Games Workshop, with Citadel and Mont Marte acrylic paints supplied for the workshop.
No previous miniature-painting experience is required. Participants can learn basic techniques while creating a miniature they can take home, making Brushwork Bootcamp an accessible introduction to the hobby for newcomers as well as an opportunity for experienced painters to practice their skills.
The workshop will cover fundamental techniques such as applying base coats, working with multiple colors and adding details to bring a miniature to life. Participants will be able to experiment with different approaches and develop their own painting style.
"One of the best things about miniature painting is that anyone can pick up a brush and start creating," Cosmic Realms organizer Gretch Corley said. "We want guests to have the opportunity to try the hobby without having to purchase all of the supplies themselves. If you've ever looked at a Warhammer miniature and thought, 'I'd love to try painting one,' this is your chance." Miniatures have been graciously supplied by Games Workshop and the Gryphon's Nest in Bridgeport, WV. Anyone interested in investing more into miniature painting is highly encouraged to visit the Gryphon's Nest for more supplies.
Brushwork Bootcamp is included with the price of admission to Cosmic Realms, with miniatures and workshop paints supplied to participants. Organizers encourage guests to take advantage of the opportunity while supplies last.
*If we run out of Warhammer miniatures, or for anyone who prefers a fantasy alternative, additional fantasy miniatures will be available for painting as well.*
